PVT play Paradiso on 25th September.

Melissa Scholten has portrayed 120 Amsterdam graffiti artists for her Alter Ego project. All of them were active in the 70’s, 80’s en 90’s. They have inspired many graffiti writers with their style, courage and creations. Melissa chose to portrait them in black & white at a favourite spot chosen by each individual artist. A book is to be released later.

Iceland has had its ash and cash issues in the past years, which has given the country a bit of a not so good reputation. If I could decide on what should be booming business for Iceland, it will be their delicious spring water and of course its vibrant music scene. Earlier this year I gave Feldberg a mention. I would now like to give Ólöf Arnalds a deserved mention. This young lady has been active in the Icelandic music scene for years. I find it just incredible that there is so much musical talent in a country with a population of 300.000, which is the same as Utrecht (city). Ever since I bumped into this photo I have been a bit of fan of the photo’s that Trey Ratcliff takes. His photography style is called HDR. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. I won’t bother you with the technical aspects of it, as you can read it on Wikipedia. The above photo is one of his recent shots and makes me say ‘Woah!’. Check out more of his work on Flickr. Ik volg de Belgische kunstenaar Kris Trappeniers nu al een tijdje via zijn Flickr pagina. Zijn technieken worden elke keer bij het opnieuw bezoeken en bewonderen van zijn Flickr beter en beter. Dit jaar is hij met de volle honderd project vooruit gegaan in zijn kunst. Het jaar is nog niet eens voorbij. Daarom: I like!

Een miereninvasie in Drachten? Kunstenaar Henk Hofstra heeft in zijn eigen woonplaats afgelopen woensdag vijfhonderd rode mieren gespoten. Dit ter ere van het 50-jarig bestaan van de schouwburg. Dit vind ik echt supercool! Kijk nou eens naar de twee foto’s hierboven. Op zijn website vind je nog meer voorbeelden van zijn projecten en kunstwerken. Het zijn vooral de grote projecten die briljant zijn.

‘Entertainment is war’ is wat Chilly Gonzales’ openingszin is tijdens zijn concert in Paradiso. De muzikale piano genie speelt in jaren weer eens een show in Amsterdam. Deze keer tourt hij met zijn Piano Talk Show. Het is de man zelf op het podium, zijn piano, goede vriend Mocky op drums en het publiek dat rondom tafels zit in de grote zaal van Paradiso. Hij speelt en zingt/rapt zijn liedjes, maakt grappen en nodigt een meisje uit het publiek uit om piano te spelen. Verhalen worden verteld over de minor, major en zijn eigen bedachte fuck you muzieksleutel. Een concertbezoeker komt pas na 45 minuten de zaal binnen. Gonzales speelt speciaal voor hem een twee minuten medley van de afgelopen 45 minuten. Held!

Yvan Rodic is al sinds 2006 bezig met streetstyle fotografie. De hele wereld reist hij af om mensen te fotograferen, die er in zijn ogen uniek uit zien. Hij doet dit onder de naam Face Hunter. Al ruim vier jaar lang kun je elke dag op zijn blog de meest unieke mensen zien uit het land waar hij op dat moment is. Eerder dit jaar bracht hij zijn Face Hunter boek uit met een selectie van foto’s die hij de afgelopen jaren heeft geschoten.  Ik ben een fan. Als ik heel erg eerlijk mag zijn ook wel een beetje jaloers op hem en zijn rond de wereld reizen.
