I bet some of you are going to London’s biggest colour-laden fest of the year, so this post is for you. But what we really want to know about, are the warm-ups and after parties that really hold the juice for some epic partying! So i’ll start with the best warm-up. Urban Nerds is expected to be good, not only cause it runs from 9.00 pm – 5.30 in the morning, but also cause it’s on a secret location in Shoreditch like last years warehouse rave. For afterpartying go to E.T.A. Their parties promise a great crowd, cheap drinks and a sound system where true clubbers dream of. With live sets of  Staton Warriors, Lazersonic and Gold Fish, there’s not much reason to say no to this one! Hope this helps to make your weekend booming.

Wilton & Monfaradi

jesse-60

During my time in London I became a huge fan of Dan Wilton’s photography. Untill the 26th you can check out  this cool collaborative exhibition with filmographer Huse Monfaradi. They captured 54 friends and colleagues looking a bit terrifying as they cuss and scream in the camera. If you’re in London, go and have a look around at londonewcastle Project.

RAY LOWRY: LONDON CALLING

tb_152gallery

Think of the 80’s, think of The Clash.  The most well-known of their albums, London Calling, is so important that its cover, designed by artist Ray Lowry, has become famous itself. Lowry’s work- which is featured in Punch, NME and The Times- influenced many artist and gained cult status. Now, 30 years since London Calling’s release, this exhibition shows the work of 30 world-class artists paying tribute to Lowry’s seminal work.

With urban showcases, open studios and small feasts, this festival will bring this beloved city to live! There’s an impressive bunch of architectural exhibitions and a lot of highlights, including a weekend long celebration in my favourite part of London: East! (June 26-27) and the festivals finale around Bankside Urban Forest (3-4 July). read more…

the great drag race

20091027-DragRace-KevinClark-TWP-450

It’s going to be a wonderful day Saturday and it’s a good cause, so guys: get your nylons and wigs ready! To help drag (I know, great pun) greater awareness of prostate cancer into the public domain, the first annual Great Drag Race will take place in the park London Fields and it aims to fit a thousand men of all shapes and sizes (so there go the excuses) into frocks and wigs and get them to run or walk for 10.2km – that’s one metre for each of the 10,200 (!) men lost to cancer every year. Possibly the best excuse ever for getting dressed up.

skin

skin blog

In this exhibition our existence will be considered within our constantly changing skin. The Skin exhibition in London moves to look at the skin as a living document: with tattoos, scars, wrinkles or various pathologies. This sounds COOL! There’s a piece of cut out skin with tattoos from the late 19th century and a ceramic apothecary jar named ‘Psoriasis 1’ with flaky looking bits of  (which I hope is) skin attached. In the Skin Lab you can check out biological jewellery made from epithelia cells, which is artificial skin, grown, dyed and sealed into an object. I think it’s worth to check it out!

It’s almost time for the fifth edition of Source Festival! Besides  many great electronic music acts, where the festival is known for, there will be space for cultural and creative projects  like artshows, theater and film. On  the 10th and 11th of July three outspoken sounds can be heard. First of all, electronic label Kompakt from Keulen, will bring artists like Superpitcher, Matias Aguayo and Koze. Secondly, the organisation Lockdown represents the Dubstep scene, inclusing Mala, Silkie&Quest, L-OW and Cinnaman. And last but not least, the pure technosound of Robert Hood, Joris Voorn and Marcel Fengler. Get ready for a buck wild weekend in the Nedereindse Plas in Utrecht!

who am I?

Artist Gordon Clark shows bizar images in which Leon Botha, the South African Progeria survivor, plays the leading role. Progeria is a rare aging disease and affects only one in four million people. Leon Botha presents himself as a living artwork. Besides photographs and paintings, Botha is also a popular actor in movies and video clips. The opening of the exhibition is Satuday June the 12th in Torch Gallery in Amsterdam.

dum dum girls

Last tuesday Dum Dum Girls performed in Paradiso. The band consists of four sexy rocking L.A. chicks: DeeDee, Sandy, Bambi and Juules.  Leadsinger DeeDee wrote the debut album I Will Be by herself, but decided to form a band. A lot of dream-pop ’60s girly-punk harmonies, I like it! Especially the single Jail La La. Sorry for the bad photography..
