INTERVIEW SONNY VANDEVELDE

_PAR5881 _PAR8334

R.I.P. Corinne Day

Corinne Day - Kate Moss 1989Yesterday fashion photographer Corinne Day (1965) passed away after a long battle against cancer. Her anti glamour photography conquered the world in the early nineties and Corinne Day almost single-handedly launched the career of Kate Moss. The epic shoot The 3rd summer of love, styled by Melanie Ward and featuring a sixteen year old Moss, was published in The Face in July 1990 and can be regarded as the beginning of a new era in fashion photography.

Wilton & Monfaradi

jesse-60

During my time in London I became a huge fan of Dan Wilton’s photography. Untill the 26th you can check out  this cool collaborative exhibition with filmographer Huse Monfaradi. They captured 54 friends and colleagues looking a bit terrifying as they cuss and scream in the camera. If you’re in London, go and have a look around at londonewcastle Project.

Melissa Scholten has portrayed 120 Amsterdam graffiti artists for her Alter Ego project. All of them were active in the 70’s, 80’s en 90’s. They have inspired many graffiti writers with their style, courage and creations. Melissa chose to portrait them in black & white at a favourite spot chosen by each individual artist. A book is to be released later.

Louise te Poele – Dutch Photography Talent!

Louise te Poele - Farmer serie - nr.1

Hereby I would like to introduce the amazing and wonderful Louise te Poele. I would like to show her work to you because  her work on the one hand consists of amazing fashion photography and the other hand beautiful and carefully created Art photographs. With her art work she photographs the people she grew up with in a small town in the east of the Netherlands. Its very well explained on her website so I’m not going to try and make that any better;

Louise te Poele uses the medium of photography. Her sculptures rise from her fascination with the depiction of humans.
She is interested in specific characteristics in humans. In her work is the saying “les extremes se touchent ‘ (the extremes are touching) is very apparent.
For it is the idiosyncrasies that make an individual fascinating. Acquaintances, family, models or passersby, she observes them and puts them down. read more…

Let’s take a minute and discuss Steven Meisel’s superiority. Water & Oil is published in the August issue of Vogue Italia. It’s almost as genius as his terrorism shoot.

HDR photography

HDR photography by Trey Ratcliff - Stuck in Customs

Ever since I bumped into this photo I have been a bit of fan of the photo’s that Trey Ratcliff takes. His photography style is called HDR. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. I won’t bother you with the technical aspects of it, as you can read it on Wikipedia. The above photo is one of his recent shots and makes me say ‘Woah!’. Check out more of his work on Flickr. You can also follow him on his Stuck in Customs website and download a tutorial, if you want to play around with HDR yourself. I gave it a few tries myself already.
