Classical music meets Rosalia’s ethereal pop magic
We knew Rosalia’s range was exceptional, but on her newest single, Berghain, the ever-experimenting Spanish pop princess takes us away from the club and into the symphony, collaborating with our favs new and old: Björk ,Yves Tumor , and, as a cherry on top, the London Symphony Orchestra. In Berghain’s accompanying music video, Rosalia dreams up her own contemporary fairytale. As soaring strings open Berghain’s divine gates, the orchestra fervently swells (and physically surrounds) our prima donna’s angelic vocal as she goes throughout her day of household chores while simultaneously breaking out into operatic arias (sound familiar?). Progressing in distinct symphonic movements, Rosalia and her instrumental sidekicks are disrupted by fairy godmother Björk’s celestial calls, pulling Rosalia out of her reality and into a dark, enchanted forest. Bunnies, birds, and deer take the place of violinists and cellists, until Yves Tumor´s haunting shouts bring the scene to a climatic ending.
With her classical training front and centre, Berghain’s magically transcient pop-infused melodies explore the relationship between devotion, divinity, and salvation. As the first single from her upcoming album Lux, the release of Berghain begs the question: What can’t Roaslia do?
