Amsterdam’s first queer strip club is a reality

“Va Va Voom” centres LGBTQIA+ desire and sensual expression.

Sex and desire are integral parts to (most) people’s actualization as viable beings. Expressing yourself through sexual performance and enjoying erotic entertainment are ways to release inner sensuality and soak everything around you with nurturing lust. Unfortunately, the hetero-normative world we find ourselves in doesn’t allow for desire to exist in all its shapes and forms. For LGBTQIA+ folks, strip clubs and erotic performances are often spaces of hostility and exclusion. And Amsterdam—as much as it prides itself in inclusion—is no exception to the hete-rule. Still, where there’s oppression, radical transformation is bound to erupt. That’s where Amber Vineyard, Xiomara Virdó and Raziyah Heath step in; three sirens of our local queer sea, who’re taking a leap in establishing the city’s first ever queer strip club and performance night, Va Va Voom! Explicitly prioritizing queer and trans people of colour, the event will blend strip-tease and burlesque, alongside performances by legends SNNY JNSN, Angel X Marrero and DJ Jasmine Perez. What’s more, your hostess will be none other than Pioneering Mother Amber herself, making this sex-positive celebration one for the books. See you there, and you betta bring cash 💸
