Brianna Capozzi's Lens on Sisterly Bonds

“They keep me alive and pumping. They put the joy in my life above the line. We owe so much to women, their depth and grace and resilience.”

There is nothing quite like sisterhood, where shared glances speak volumes and unspoken understanding runs deep. Known for her fashion shoots with the likes of Pamela Anderson, Chloë Sevigny, and Julia Fox, Brianna Capozzi now leaps towards something more intimate with her latest project Sisters, six years in the making and is now stocked at our favourite bookstore IDEA. Featuring sisters, half-sisters, and twin-sisters her photographic work is elevated beyond the realm of documentary and steps into poetics by faithfully and tenderly capturing the pairs. She achieved this by stepping back and letting her models assume the roles of stylists and creative directors along with keeping the clothing minimal so as not to impose any layers of obstruction. Capozzi embraces the unpredictable nature of sisterhood, allowing genuine dynamics to shape her compositions organically. She plunges into the spontaneous essence of sisterly bonds, never knowing whether you will be greeted with insults or praises, laughing or crying, hugs or slaps – or all of them – in the same afternoon. Capozzi infuses the book with deeply personal touches, from her childhood Barbie doll to an ethereal photograph of herself and her sister Gabrielle, to whom the book is dedicated. In a broader sense (Brianna) Capozzi wishes to celebrate her relationship with all the women in her life as she writes: “They keep me alive and pumping. They put the joy in my life above the line. We owe so much to women, their depth and grace and resilience.”
