Dr. Martens x MadeMe: Checked, cheeky, chunky

Who said the 90s rebellious spirit was quelled?

It is not a surprise that Dr. Martens and NYC brand MadeMe partnered up once more after the magic they conjured up with their previous 1461 Steel toe collection. We couldn’t get enough of them last year, and this summer’s drop promises to be just as addictive. This time around, we’re spoiled to a fresh dose of rebellious energy with the debut of Dr. Martens’ latest collaboration: bold, edgy, unapologetically feminine — everything we’ve come to know MadeMe for. Birthed is a Buzz with rounded silhouettes that fuses MadeMe’s girls-girl grit with Dr. Martens’ punk heritage and middle-finger-in-the-air attitude. The themes are as loud as it is clear — paying homage to the underground scenes of the ‘90s and early 2000s, tailing the scratched knees of skaters and the patched jackets of punkheads.

The Buzz shoe features a sharp black-and-white check, complemented by an oversized Velcro strap. The cherry on the top? A chunky MadeMe logo, incorporating the brand’s characteristic girlhood-with-an-edge aesthetic, decorated with that signature yellow stitch of Dr.Martens. In a season predicted to be overwhelmed with polka-dots, the Buzz stands in stark contrast with its jagged checks, representing the shared values of the brand not only in form but in being. The call-back to 90s champions both brands poignantly, reflecting a decade that reshaped girlhood, style, and self-expression. The Buzz captures the raw, instinctive energy of women pushing culture forward, and stomping on the rules while they’re at it.
