Was it all a hyper-pop fever dream? We hope not.
Wow, you guys really pulled up! A week ago was the second edition of GLAMCULT SELECTS; a night of outrageously amazing outfits, hyper-pop fantasies and deconstructed drum and bass. We had a whole lotta’ fun, and by the looks of all the post-party recap pics, it seems you did too! Once again, we took ourselves (and our cult) off into the Westerpark night, and amongst the silence of the park, brought the sultry (and much less silent) sounds of ARROCHA, DJ PREMIUM TIMEFLEX and GENEEVRE. As always, our DJ curation proved pure-underground, putting forward some of Amsterdam’s most exciting emerging talents. Now, if you didn’t manage to make it, fear not — we’re here with a recap of the night!
Beginning the evening was the incomparable ARROCHA. Known for her fusion of hot-Canary Island beats alongside some classic UK breaks and bass, she did not come to mess around. Bringing pure dancefloor energy, ARROCHA immediately opened the space as the people piled in. In speaking to her before the event, we found her sets to be “inspired by storytelling”, and if we were to title the narrative she gave us last Thursday, it would be “Redefining the meaning of opener“. Taking us away from the day, and into the night ARROCHA gave her all — and you gave it back! Next on the lineup was DJ PREMIUM TIMEFLEX, and one moment that iconified (yes… it’s a word(is)…?) the entire set to come, was his deep remix of Ariana Grande’s 7 rings. Bringing Hyper-pop with a capital H, DJ PREMIUM TIMEFLEX had the crowd hung between a kind of SOPHIE-instilling euphoria and wide-eyed stares. Closing the show was GENEEVRE who, staying true to our expectations, deconstructed everything we had previously come to know about the techno and club experience. Drawing his sound for a multiplicity of genres and inspiration-points, there was a collective sense of joy, as we all danced with one another till the early hours.
Overall, the night was pure, pleasurable and nothing short of perfection.
