Heading Horst

Glamcult’s approved guide to 3 days of non-stop dancing, courtesy of Horst Festival 2019.

Come rain or come shine, this season we’ve seen it all. A blur of countless days and nights spent on dancefloors, beaches and fields, the summer is rolling by at an alarming speed—but worry not! From the 13th until the 15th of September we are celebrating the end of festival season with the bang that is HORST FESTIVAL 2019. Can you imagine a better way to conclude another sultry summer—why yes, it might technically be in September, but one can certainly argue that summer is a mindset beyond the calendar—than a three-day sonic extravaganza unfolding against the landscape of a former military zone? Didn’t think so.

The festival concludes Horst’s annual inter-disciplinary exhibition, as well as this year’s debut of Horst Labs, an initiative aimed at supporting the next generation of creative movers and shakers through a formidable programme of talks, workshops and community projects. These three elements at the core of Horst’s passionate mission of employing art and music as catalysts for change. In this spirit, Horst festival 2019 is bigger and better than ever, boasting a new futuristic location and an undeniably impressive line-up—where does one even begin? Selflessly at your service and always ready to go an extra mile, the Glamcult team has devised a day by day curated guide highlighting some of our all-time favourite DJs and artists. Pack your toothbrush and your dancing shoes—it’s time to head Horst.

Friday is bound to kicks off with some serious dancing, thanks to Bristol’s very own Shanti Celeste, who never fails to get the party started. Once it gets hot and heavy, Nordic electronic underground star Mama Snake will keep up the pace with cutting-edge techno. And, of course, we cannot fail to mention the one and only High Priestess of Motherbeat herself, Eris Drew, devoted to spreading the healing powers of music one immersive, magical rave at a time.

There is no rest for the wicked, and as it is written so it shall be done—Saturday is on. Joining in are the industry legend and superstar Berghain resident Tama Sumo, the multitalented Gabber Eleganza, aka the Italian gabber archivist and artist Alberto Guerrini, and the ‘book at your own risk’ fireball and Herrensauna resident SPFDJ. Don’t say we didn’t warn you about this line-up!

Last, but not least comes a truly blessed Sunday: another Bristol supernova Giant Swan—a dynamic duo who quite literally blow up every place they go, bringing two of their own bass amps to every show; the sleek prince of Parisian techno scene Bambounou; and Glamcult darling Peach, who, frankly, should be canonised for her Boiler Room debut alone.
