Poster Girl Owns Every Room

“We don’t like to be bored”

In the murk of the fashion industry, hearing someone’s successful story of slinking through confusion and internships to eventually build a commonwealth of their own is the ultimate beacon of hope. Poster Girl’s story does not evade the narrative – Francesca Capper and Natasha Somerville, the brand’s spearheads, met while studying womenswear design at Central Saint Martins in London. The brand solidified some of their sartorial dreams into a coherent account, united by a fascination with uncommon mediums: a tale about the aweless woman, who balances her composure with brazen sensuality and agency. Nowadays, the brand reached the diagonal side of the fame axis: the Poster Girl status, which in itself became a marker of coolness, is proudly evinced by the likes of JT, Megan Thee Stallion and Bella Hadid. Their visuals remained conspicuously Poster Girl-esque, and the latex-gauzy-fabric-crystal-heels silhouette prevailed as its embodiment. To celebrate the arrival of Poster Girl to the Glamcult Store, we caught up with the fire– in their vision, their humour, and their future goals.

Hey! So great to speak to you. How would you define the ‘Poster Girl’ attitude? Is it a mindset, a lifestyle, or something more fluid – and how has it evolved since you first launched the brand?
Natasha: It’s both a lifestyle and a fluid identity, shaped by those who wear it. Since launching, it’s evolved into a cult movement, empowering individuals to own their look and break boundaries.

You’ve mentioned that humour is an essential part of your creative practice. How do you weave that sense of playfulness into your designs while maintaining the sophistication and edge Poster Girl is known for?
Francesca: Humour is a key element to our stance and view on fashion so weaving it into the designs and the campaigns is second nature really. You can see cheeky hints of it in styles like the sextape tracksuits and our custom leopard print, but often it takes closer inspection to see these details, which retains the sense of sophistication (to some level).

Friendship feels like such an important pillar of your brand and ethos. How has your personal chemistry shaped the way you collaborate creatively, and what have you learned about each other through building Poster Girl?
Natasha: POSTER GIRL is our baby — it simply wouldn’t exist without our friendship. Our bond is the foundation, built on trust, a shared vision, and a determination we’ve both had since the beginning.

How does your brand’s aesthetic reflect your individual personalities, and where do your visions align or diverge?
Francesca: Our personalities definitely show through in the brand, it’s also like our alter egos where we can have fun with dressing up! Our aesthetic is a direct extension of that in a playful but intentional way. One of the most incredible parts about being a designer duo is we can bounce off each other and float so many crazy ideas together, then come back down to earth and decide what direction we want to go in.

From chainmail to sculptural silhouettes, your use of materials is both innovative and iconic. What draws you to experiment with unconventional fabrics, and how do you push the boundaries of what feels wearable?
Natasha: Both Francesca and I were obsessed even at CSM with unusual mediums. One project we did together there was using metal binding clips in clothes. Sewing and figuring out chainmail for the first time we were wearing goggles at the sewing machine – it’s thrilling (we don’t like to be bored!).

You’ve been working with latex a lot lately, could you share more on what pulls you towards the material and your approach to working with it? Francesca: Latex is the without a doubt sexiest fabric out there, so naturally we are super drawn to it like moths to a flame. It feels like a second skin which is great for our tight silhouettes, but is also fun to push the boundaries of how we can work with it. Traditionally latex is seen more in the sex realm than fashion realm, but that’s where POSTER GIRL bridges the gap generally.

There’s a bold femininity in your designs – unapologetic and empowered. How do you navigate the tension between designing for the gaze and reclaiming the narrative for the wearer?
Natasha: It’s never about the gaze, it’s about ‘her’ owning every room. POSTER GIRL flips the script on femininity: bold, unapologetic, and always in control.

Your pieces are instantly recognisable, yet always evolving. How do you maintain the core identity of Poster Girl while challenging yourselves to grow?
Francesca: We’ve never been afraid to shift, adapt, and reinvent. When we launched POSTER GIRL, it all started with just six chainmail pieces! Each new fabrication marks a distinct era for us, from the moment our fishnet shapewear went viral to our current obsession with latex, we’re always pushing into new territory. But no matter the material, the silhouette, or the trend, the POSTER GIRL identity is unmistakable because we pour so much of ourselves into every piece. Every collection and every campaign is a reflection of our world and our energy.

Your designs have resonated with a diverse range of cultural figures and celebrities. What does it mean to see your work embraced by people who embody such different forms of ‘Poster Girl energy’?
Natasha: It’s unreal. Seeing such a diverse range of people connect with POSTER GIRL in their own way is exactly what the brand stands for.

Let’s talk about your visuals! You’re known for putting together iconic campaigns – like Cindy Kimberly in Supreme Court or the Lily Vanilli cake collab. How do your campaigns reflect the broader ethos of the brand? Francesca: Our campaigns are everything to us, it’s where Natasha and I can really have fun and unleash our creative ideas. A lot of the concepts we have are not traditionally seen in fashion, like the Supreme Court campaign that allowed us to tell a story showcasing the collection rather than another lookbook or runway show. We always want to find fun new ways of connecting with our audience and are honestly just here to entertain!

We also have to clear something up… Where do we stand on wearing Poster Girl to Applebee’s?
Natasha: Hahaha LOVE this question, as we both discovered by doing so ourselves, we stand proudly in wearing POSTER GIRL at Applebee’s!

Looking back on your journey so far, what has been the most defining moment for Poster Girl – and what do you hope the brand will represent in the years to come?
Francesca: It is soooooo hard to pinpoint one moment over the last 8 years!! One that feels like a full circle moment starts with Kylie Jenner wearing POSTER GIRL in 2021 (one of our first celebrity champions from the jump) to now, collaborating on a collection together with KHY this year. There are TOO many incredible moments, one day when we are a couple of old grannies still in our fishnets, we will write an iconic memoir.

We’re still reminiscing about the Poster Girl launch at Glamcult Store. What was the highlight of the evening for you?
Natasha: I loved watching customers try on our new butt enhancing shapewear!
