Rane Supreme: The Convergence of Identity and Body

In Ferris Osseiran ’s Rane Supreme, identity is warped and defaced as the body stands at the convergence of expectation and projection. Through black and white portraits, our statuesque subject evolves, fluxing in, out, and beyond familiar gender representations. Styling is used not as a costume but as a tool of distortion, subtly shifting between the strong, flamboyant, sensual, and brave. At once, the thinker, unassuming beauty, and strongman can exist in one body’s representation, neither mutually exclusive nor inclusive. 

On display at De Kunstfabriek in Rotterdam from October 10th-21st, Rane Supreme was inspired by Italian singer Mina’s Rane Supreme album artwork of the same name, in which Mina’s face is transposed onto a male bodybuilder. Osseiran’s interpretation goes beyond tribute, asking us to explore the body and identity beyond contemporary frameworks.
