On La Perla, Rosalía is protecting her peace

Sometimes not even the most excessive armour — a fencing suit tight as resolve, a mouth guard biting down on unsent texts, a glinting chastity belt — can protect you from an evil player. In La Perla, Rosalía leans fully into emotional self-defence mode. Drawing loosely on the story of Saint Fabiola, the video swaps martyrdom for boundaries, ruthlessly calling out every excuse, lie, and ego trip. The unnamed “him” gets expertly dragged through the mud: a “world-class fuck-up,” an “emotional terrorist,” less a man than a sublimation of disappointing masculinity. Rosalía skates, armours up, and keeps moving — reminding us that settling for a crusty man is indeed very embarrassing.
