Straight off the helipad
As we finally begin to whip off the sweats and move to the more glamorous side of life, Sacai has taken our return to reality as a return to the opulent. This season is all about the long, elongated dresses, tight silhouettes, matched alongside block-colored woolen bombers (oh, and don’t forget the always-appropriate platform boot). Recreating Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing, the show hits city-living; from the whirring of a Sacai helicopter in the background to the streets becoming the brand’s runway.
As each model emerges, a squad is created within the (never-seen-before) emptiness of the intersect. Of course, this is a set – but the fantasy of the clothing: puff-sleeves, deconstructed sweaters, and flowing floor-length skirts, makes the notion of casual-wear all the more futile. Each piece is intended to turn heads, but it’s both the block red colorway trench with a red mermaid dress underneath which truly got us ready to more, alongside the full-denim moment, returning us all to the Y2K mirage this year has reflected.
The collection, alongside the show, is a dream-like scape made for the fairylike individual. All in all, one thing is clear – the time is near; get out your Sunday best and let’s hit the streets, because post-Covid, every day can be a moment.
