This weekend, we are getting Exposed

A sneaky glance into KABK’s fashion graduate show, coming up on June 20th

Despite spring having recently departed, June sets into motion the real blossoming season, as per the customs of the fashion kids. If you’re not familiar with the reason, let us pin it in your calendar: this month, young designers all around the world’s fashion institutes are graduating, launching themselves and their creative impetuses into the embraces of the industry. And while everyone has their own opinion on the state of said-fashion industry and its incertitudes, one thing remains certain: the emerging flux of young talent is prolific and worth all your attention.

On June 20th, KABK’s new generation of designers will present their crafts in full vigor at the Exposed show in The Hague. Needless to say, KABK being one of the Dutch institutions with a steadfast hold on some of the greatest designer names. The show is going to be all about dichotomies, propelled by nostalgia dives and futuristic speculation.

From artists such as Hiromu Takeshita, whose work spans spirituality, spacewear, and speculation, all the way to Zhenyi Zhou (Apriscilla), whose cyber, biomorphic visual language melds skin, skeletal structures and rituals, this year’s graduates are united by their pursuit of making sense of the world and its status quo. Asira Zai and Bas Pol, with their joint interest in the overlooked beauty of decay, will exhibit a synergic collection that feels like both grazing over a physical relic and the nostalgia of unearthing a piece of digital mythology. As for the rest… you should pry yourself next Saturday. The exhibition is all about exploring uncertainty, backed by belief and trust in the process of becoming, reminding us through sartorial means that our existence is merely a tool for transportation and evolution.

Even though the revolution may not be televised, our prognosis is that a fashion upheaval will come from the very youngest within the industry. We warned you… so make sure you are not missing out on the Exposed fashion show as a first glimpse into what may happen 😉
