Intimacy is designed at Kunsthal Rotterdam

You may be using “physical” and “material” interchangeably – Toy Stories reminds us that sexuality is both

Sex sells… or maybe voyeurism does? One thing is certain: our corporeal drive manifests itself today as a widespread commodity – and with this development, sex toys became in direct proportion its fastest growing side asset.

Over at Kunsthal in Rotterdam, these means have been seized and delightfully curated into Toy Stories. Designing Intimacy, an exhibition sensibly focusing on how aesthetics, functionality, inclusivity and materiality bind to our very use of the not-so-taboo-anymore objects. Previously frowned upon and wrapped in an odium of vulgarity, (self)pleasing toys now bask in a status similar to other decoratively ambiguous design pieces – or, at worst, in a general repute of neutrality. Still, there’s a road to be paved ahead for an even more, much needed sex positive attitude, to which sex toys are endemic; and Kunsthal Rotterdam is definitely not laissez-faire about its course.

Make sure to pay a visit to Rotterdam’s sexiest exhibition up until May 11th. Find out more here!
