UNIQLO combines ‘comfort’ and ‘cool’ for A/W19

Expect the essential, designed by Christophe Lemaire.

This past summer, Glamcult travelled to Paris for an exclusive peek into a research facility we’d been dying to see for more than just a while. What we found in the French capital is a space for leading fashion experimentation and innovation, better known as UNIQLO’s acclaimed Research & Design centre.

Bringing together world-class designers and pattern makers, evolution is at the heart of the Japanese fashion brand and its design hub—which constantly aims to advance the popular ‘LifeWear’ and is led by Christophe Lemaire. Formerly head of design at Hermès and Lacoste, Lemaire was appointed Artistic Director of the Paris R&D Centre in 2016, where the fashion visionary and his team create the ‘U’ collection.

What UNIQLO does best—aka, why it keeps infiltrating your wardrobe—is reinventing essentials. For autumn/winter 2019, that means a classically styled duffle coat for men has been remade in BLOCKTECH: a fabric that’s waterproof, windproof and breathable. It also means that the silhouettes of women’s trousers have been updated with a gentle curve from the waist to create a 2020-ready look.

Although you may have spotted some presale items in store since mid-July, UNIQLO’s brand new ‘U’ collection will be officially launched on September 26th. Offering nearly 80 items for all genders, get ready to cop your must-haves for those dreaded colder days that are (unfortunately) just around the corner.
