Walter van Bierendonck A/W24...need we say more?

A mishmash hurricane

Where do we even start with this one? This collection comes together in a mishmash hurricane. A clash of prints and styles that all make perfect sense in the van Beirendonck universe. Honestly, the title perfectly captures the mood, “Banana Wink Boom” – yep that’s how we’re feeling. This collection is infused with an added level of cheekiness: “My process creating this brand-new collection was different. Weirder. I played a Frankensteinian art game with my own mind. ‘Cadavre Exquis’ is also known as a collage of consequences. Where tops & bottoms are playing telephone. Fittingly clashing.” – Walter van Beirendonck

While the entire collection is brand new, van Beirendonck went into his archive for inspiration. Drawing styling and makeup inspiration all the way back from W.&.L.T shows along with pulling accessories from this canon. For all you van Beirendonck nerds out there, many of the hats used in this collection were the ones he made many moons ago with Stephen Jones – we knew you found them familiar.

Okay okay, its favourites time. First off…the white boots. The entire collection features a take on the military bunny boot. But whats so special about the white ones? When we first saw it our initial thought was “did van Beirendonck make a Raf Simmons/Sunnei inspired shoe??” I mean can you blame us? The white boots specifically feel reminiscent of Raf Simons take on the bunny boot, but instead of simply a boot, its a Sunnei-like rubber-dotted spiky boot. Two fav shoes put into one, but in the van Beirendonck style. To die for. We can’t not mention the classic Hawaiian hibiscus print used throughout the collection. A playful detail that makes the little kid in us smile.
